De dónde salen estas respuestas
La mayoría de los sitios de «cuál es mi IP» revenden la API de otro. Nosotros compilamos el registro público: la tabla BGP global para el enrutado, los ficheros de delegación de los cinco registros regionales para la asignación, el bootstrap de IANA para RDAP, la base de ciudades gratuita de DB-IP para la ubicación, GeoNames para lugares y zonas horarias, la lista de salidas del proyecto Tor y el registro del IEEE para fabricantes. Todo se reconstruye a diario en índices binarios en nuestro propio disco, así que tu consulta cuesta una búsqueda binaria y ninguna petición saliente.

Your IP address is the number every website, mail server and game server you connect to is handed automatically, because it is the return address your replies come back to. It is assigned to your connection by your internet provider rather than chosen by you, and on most home lines it changes from time to time.
What your IP address does and does not say about you
It identifies a connection, not a person. From the public record we can say which network announces a route to it, which registry allocated the block it sits in and to whom, when that allocation was made, and what reverse DNS name the operator published for it. What we cannot say — and do not guess at — is your name, your street, or your household. City-level position appears only where the network operator has published a geofeed themselves under RFC 8805, which is a statement they chose to make rather than an estimate we made about them.
IPv4, IPv6, and why you may have both
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.42 and there are about four billion of them, which ran out years ago. IPv6 addresses look like 2001:db8::1 and there are enough for every device that will ever exist. Most connections now carry both at once, and which one a site sees depends on which one it can accept. This page reports the family your request actually arrived on; where the dual-stack test is configured, it measures both directly rather than inferring the other.
Why we compile the data instead of buying it
The answers on this site come from records that are public and free: the global BGP routing table, the delegation files the five regional internet registries publish, IANA's RDAP bootstrap, and GeoNames for place coordinates. We rebuild them daily into binary indexes on our own disk. That means looking up your address costs one binary search on our server and no outbound request at all — nobody else learns that you visited, and no vendor can change the answer or the price.

What is my IP address?
It is shown at the top of this page. It is the public address your connection presents to the internet — the one that every site you open sees, including this one.
Can someone find my home address from my IP address?
No. The registry record names the organisation that holds the address block, which is your internet provider, not you. Linking an address to a subscriber requires the provider's own records, which they release only to a court or a lawful request. Any site claiming to show your street from an IP is showing you the location of your provider's equipment.
Why does my IP address keep changing?
Most residential connections get a dynamic address, reassigned when the router reconnects or when the provider's lease expires. A static address is normally a paid option. If yours changed recently, the address history page will show you when.
Why is my IP address showing the wrong location?
Because location is not carried in the address. Commercial databases estimate it, and their estimates are frequently a different city or the wrong end of the country, particularly on mobile and carrier-grade NAT. We show a position only where the operator published one themselves, which is why you will often see none here.
What is the difference between my public IP and my local IP?
Your local address — usually something like 192.168.1.x — is what your router assigns inside your own network, and it is not reachable or even visible from the internet. Your public address is the one your router presents on the outside, and it is what this page shows. The connection page can tell you whether your local one is leaking through WebRTC.
Does hiding my IP address make me anonymous?
It moves the address a site sees to your VPN or proxy provider's, which is genuinely useful against casual observation. It does not make you anonymous: your browser fingerprint, your logins and your cookies identify you regardless, and your VPN provider now sees what your ISP used to. The connection page shows how much of that fingerprint travels with you.
